摘要:Management of acute or chronic wounds begins with adequate analgesia and anesthesia, respectively and thorough wound debridement. The aim of debridement is to remove necrotic and destroyed tissue and foreign bodies, if present, which are the fundamental steps for wound healing and prevention of infections. The surgical debridement shall be performed by adhering to aseptic techniques; the instrument of first choice is the scalpel.
Yet, before or next to debridement, it is imperative to identify and correct the underlying causes for wound healing disorders. Changing the wound dressing shall be performed based on the indication using antiseptics or additionally, with systemic antibiotics. Furthermore, the patient’s fluid balance, adequate nutrition and eventually present anemia must be controlled. Performing microbiological controls by obtaining tissue biopsies are dependant from the clinical picture. Also, surgically treated or transplantation regions have to be kept protected in order to augment a stabile wound closure.
In the following article, the above methods will be further explained by presenting clinical cases.
