  • 摘要:The agribusiness sector has undergone important changes, as consumers have become stricter regarding food characteristics, and firms are trying to reach higher levels of chain coordination. Even though the demand for tighter product specifications appear to be related to higher levels of chain coordination, this relationship is still unclear. Thus, this research focuses on which aspects affect agribusiness chain coordination, with special attention to the relationship between product specifications and chain coordination. Multiple case studies were developed to explore five New Zealand (NZ) fresh meat food chains supplying to the NZ domestic market. The theoretical model developed focuses on the firm dyads that belong to the agribusiness chains. Several characteristics were explored, such as chain coordination profiles and product specifications, and dyadic relationship characteristics. The research findings revealed the existence of a chain supporting and an inter-firm coordination. The latter was higher when the product specifications were reached through the development of procedures not commonly used industrywide. When the product specifications were reached through the use of industrywide procedures (i.e. higher chain supporting coordination), the inter-firm coordination was lower.
