摘要:In consumer culture body has become aconsumption object and has been normalized andproblematized by cultural, media and medicaldiscourses. “Other” body, which consumers longfor, is always much thinner than they actually haveregardless of their size. Consumers experienceparadoxes between desires of having a “beautiful”body and eating desires which have been intensifiedthrough marketing messages and objects. Thepresent study aims to explore the nature of bodyand eating desires and how they figure out inwomen’s consumption practices. Findings indicate that these desires involve a quest for otherness andsociality, produce perceptions of danger and arereinforced because of distance and inaccessibility,as Belk, Ger and Askegaard (2005) suggest.
