摘要:This article presents some main points of a wider work about the investment done by families in education, concerning the transition to the secondary school level. Families’ investment is analysed from the classical perspectives of sociology of education, with a set of attributes of the family’s context, as a space of interactions, subject to logics that are not exhausted in the ethos of social class. Viewing the family as a social condition and simultaneously as a group, we tried to perceive, in an empirical study done in the island of S. Miguel, Azores, the family dynamics that impact on the youth’s schooling. Resorting to logistical regression models, we can conclude that on the basis of school investment disparities, there are processes associated to social differences, but independently of those, there are also mobilization dynamics in the success and in the school career of families.
