摘要:Birth weigh is a good indicator to evaluate pre and postnatal development, which also has important short and long term implications on health and survival. Variability detected in birth weight both within and among populations, reflects to a great extent early human plasticity.
Comparing newborns from immigrant and non immigrant women in Spain, allows to: a) to evaluate to which extent ecological change associated to migration significantly affects birth weight ( a very important indicator of development, health and survival); b) to identify biological, socioeconomic, reproductive and sanitarian factors explaining variability in birth weight and, c) to detect whether the relative influence of this factors differs according to mother’s origin. All analysis are adjusted for sex, gestation age and number of births per deliver.
Birth weight of children born to immigrant women, is significantly higher than hat of children born to Spanish women, this result doesn’t support our working hypothesis
