Discussing alternative medicine with a doctor has always been a problem ("Talking Alternative Medicine with Your Doc," May/June 2001). I have had two doctors who actually got angry about my decision to take natural products instead of pharmaceutical drugs. Natural products almost seem to be a threat to them, perhaps because they don't profit when I decide against a prescription, or maybe they just don't understand the product I am taking. In any case, from now on when I see an M.D., I am going prepared with literature about the natural alternative I have chosen.
