Latasha M. OwensArtist: Lorenzo Pace
Trade: Multimedia
Our connection to the past inspires multimedia artist Lorenzo Pace to pay homage to the ancestors in his installations of materials molded from wood to wire. Pace was recently commissioned to create Triumph of the Human Spirit, a four-story sculpture that incorporates recovered bones of slaves, memorabilia of his parents and a replica of the lock that shackled his great-grandfather. The sculpture is dedicated to the African Burial Ground Memorial Site in New York City. "It's the oldest burial ground and the largest outdoor exhibit of its kind," says Pace, who says he feels blessed to work on this project. For more information, call (973) 655-5113.
