Football: Knox-Ed Out!

STRANRAER'S failed attempts to reach the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time revolved on a tale of two skippers.

Falkirk captain David Moss had already given his side a first- half lead when the home side were awarded a penalty 10 seconds after the interval.

Stranraer captain Keith Knox stepped up to take the kick but his shot was pushed around the post by Falkirk keeper Paul Methers.

Falkirk had enjoyed an iron grip in the first half. Kevin James had a header knocked off the line and had another saved by keeper Gordon Bruce.

But they were ahead after 25 minutes. David Sinclair started the move with a pass wide to Jamie McQuilken whose cross was flicked on by Crabbe for Moss to fire a great shot into the top corner of the net.

All Stranraer had to show in the first half was an effort from Duncan George when he knocked a Paul Kinnaird cross ball over the line but deposited keeper Methers in the net too and his effort was ruled out.

It was Moss again who grabbed Falkirk's second on 64 minutes. Crabbe crossed from the left and Moss gave keeper Bruce no chance with a powerful header.

A reply three minutes from time sparked a Stranraer fight back. Kinnaird sent in a corner from the right and sub Gavin Friels scored from close range.

Friels just missed another Kinnaird cross and in the final minute the winger sent in yet another great cross that Alan Jenkins headed just over.
