QUEEN MUM HOME IS MOST HAUNTED
SARAH ROBERTSONTHE Queen Mother's childhood home is the most haunted house in Scotland.
Glamis Castle, which graces the back of Royal Bank pounds 10 notes, topped a poll of the spookiest places in the country.
The Tayside castle is said to house a ghost known as the Grey Lady - believed to be the spirit of the Queen Mother's ancestor, Lady Glamis.
Lady Glamis was found guilty of witchcraft and burned at the stake in 1537 at Edinburgh's Castlehill, but her ghost is regularly spotted around Glamis along with a "White Lady" and a tongueless woman.
Glamis has stolen the spooky crown from Borthwick Castle in Midlothian, which ghost hunters claim lost some of its ghostly appeal since it was exorcised last year.
Roddy Martine, author of Supernatural Scotland and the man who researched the list, said the landscape and weather north of the border were perfect for ghost stories.
"Through the violence of its history, and contrasts of landscape, Scotland lends itself to haunting," he added.
-THE top 10 are: Glamis Castle, Tayside; The Abbot House, Fife; Culloden Moor; Mary King's Close, Edinburgh; Crossraguel Abbey, Ayrshire; Forest of Rothiemurchus, Inverness-shire; Fernie Castle Hotel, Fife; Borthwick Castle, Midlothian; Edinburgh Castle; Glasgow City Chambers.
