GEORGE SPLASHES OUT

POP star George Michael wants to build a swimming pool at his riverside mansion - but he'll have to score a hit with planners first.

George, 36, has been warned he must ensure that the pool at Mill Cottage, Goring-on-Thames, South Oxon, is in keeping with its traditional surroundings. HIs architect, Alan Kayley said: "George sees the home as a summer retreat - the pool will make it even more attractive then and he'll spend more time in England.

"But Goring is a conservation area. It's close to the ruins of an abbey and a 12th-Century church, so you have to be aware of the neighbouring buildings."

The application, submitted under the singer's real name, George Panayiotou, has already been agreed in principle by South Oxfordshire District Council planners. It now needs final approval.
