Mend homes with Polyfilla, families told
SIMON CROSSHOUSEHOLDERS have been left seething by council surveyors who told them to patch up their cracking and sinking homes...with Polyfilla.
The four houses began to subside and break up when builders dug a giant hole next door to them.
One family even had to move out after an entire side of their home in Heywood, Greater Manchester, broke off.
But surveyors sent by Rochdale Council to inspect the other homes said the best bet for the families was to do a spot of DIY plastering.
Print worker Colin Whiteley, 53, said: "There was nothing wrong until this. I can't believe I have been told to fill the cracks with Polyfilla."
And textile worker Steven Wright, 42, and his wife Sharron, 41, said: "We were stunned when we were told what to do."
A Rochdale Council spokesman said it was aware of the problems, but it was not directly involved.
