From the editor

Robert P. Watson

Manuscript submissions to White House Studies have increased at a gradual rate since the journal was founded in 2000, which has enhanced the quality and breadth of the journal's offering. Regardless of whether you have already published in or submitted a manuscript to the journal, or whether you have not, I invite you to consider submitting your research for possible publication.

WHS accepts unsolicited manuscripts on a wide array of topics on or with relevance to the presidency, presidential and national policies and politics, and the White House. WHS publishes scholarly articles, commentary, book reviews, and such features as profiles of former and current residents of the White House, information on presidential homes and sites, and a "Teaching Forum" design for the classroom. Contributors to WHS have reflected the journal's interdisciplinary nature, with scholars representing such fields of study as political science, history, communications, women's studies, library science, and others. So too have those outside of academia--including staff members at presidential libraries and homes, park service administrators, attorneys, and other presidential enthusiasts--contributed to WHS.

Contributors should know that the journal is refereed, meaning all manuscripts are sent anonymously by the editor to peer reviewers. The reviewers are experts on the presidency--typically professors, roughly 100 strong--who volunteer their time and service to advance the knowledge base on the presidency. WHS is one of three scholarly periodicals on the presidency the others being Presidential Studies Quarterly, published by the Center for the Study of the Presidency, and Congress & the Presidency, published by the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University. There are also two other fine publications on the topic: the PRG Report, published by the Presidency Research Group of the American Political Science Association, and White House History, published by the White House Historical Association.

Helpful guidelines for submitting manuscripts are found on the inside of the back cover of the journal and on the WHS website (www.whitehousestudies.com). Prospective contributors with questions should also feel free to contact me (contact information is also listed on the inside of the back cover and online).
