Frizz busters: fighting the elements - Strands
Stephanie ScottOur hair is naturally dry and craves moisture. But too much moisture (from humidity in the air) can make even the smoothest hair frizz. Our tips will get you through this tough season.
wet seal
Instead of towel-drying relaxed hair (which can tangle hair and disturb curls), cover it lightly with a towel to soak up any excess water. Then use a wide-tooth comb to work a product like John Frieda Relax Texture Correcting Serum through wet hair before blow-drying.

gleam cream
Those with fine hair can use a light cream to fight frizz, give shine and impart moisture without weighing hair down. We like: Alberto V05 Sheer Hairdressing Lightweight Leave-In Anti-Frizz & Shine Creme.

smooth curls
Give your curls a lift with a curl enhancer. One to try: TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Curl Booster, which contains moisturizers and light polymers that reduce frizz.

moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
Frizz-free hair starts with a shampoo and conditioning system that moisturizes and smooths, Two to try: L'Oreal Vive Smooth-Intense System (shampoo, conditioner and serum) and Matrix Sleek.look Smoothing System (shampoo, conditioner, hair masque and styling products).

defining moments
Leave-in conditioners moisturize and coat the hair shaft with a protective barrier that helps keep frizz at bay. If you have natural hair, look for a leave-in conditioner that strengthens and detangles, like Alterna Life Curls Detangler

STOP THE FRIZZLES
1 The first step should be protein conditioning treatments twice a week and a moisturizer.
2 For relaxed hair, stylist Oscar James recommends using a straightening creme after a workout to tame frizzy edges caused by perspiration,
3 Create a hair "cocktail" by layering three or more hair products (leave-in conditioner, gel or serum, and moisturizing hair oil) for extra protection.
4 If it's almost time for a touch-up, wear a textured style--like twists or a rod set--or blow-dry hair with a diffuser and John Frieda Relax Ripple Effect Wave-Maker Styling Spray for a wavy finish.
prep step
Opt for holding products that won't leave hair feeling sticky. Our picks: Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel, which doesn't allow the humidity to penetrate hair, and Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip, a light floppy cream that gives superior hold without making your hair feel hard.
