Black Art Collector at the Met - Brief Article
Mondella S. JonesThe Metropolitan Museum of Art's Audience Development Multicultural Initiative has a mission to increase public awareness of the Museum's multicultural collection and programs, encourage participation in Museum activities, and create ongoing relationships with the many diverse communities that together constitute New York City. The Museum encourages everyone to visit its rich offerings--from special exhibitions and vast galleries filled with works from the permanent collections to lectures, films, concerts, and family programs--and embrace its rich textures, beauty, and history to enjoy a fruitful experience that will last a lifetime.
The Met hosted collectors Bill and Camille Cosby and curator, art historian and author David Driskell in a standing room only event to launch his new book The Other Side of Color (See BIBR, May/June 2001, p. 41). BIBR's EYE editor, Sandra Jackson, also director of education for the Studio Museum in Harlem, introduced the program.
