Rugby Union: Roaring Tigers send Barking to the dogs
CHRIS KINGLEON Lloyd put his name in the record books yesterday as Leicester sailed into the fifth round of the Tetley's Bitter Cup.
The 21 year old winger, tipped as a future England star, scored four tries as the Tigers demolished Second Division Barking 65-6 at Welford Road.
It equalled the club record in the Cup set by England and Lions winger Rory Underwood against Bristol in 1985.
All told, Leicester scored 11 tries in a one-sided Fourth Round tie as the Tigers started a campaign which they hope will lead to a sixth triumph.
Jeff Probyn, the former England prop who is now director of rugby at Barking, said beforehand that his side stood no chance.
The 42-year-old, who played in the front row, was proved right as his side were completely out-classed by a Leicester side which left out most of their big guns.
With an amazing 90 England and Lions caps on the bench, Leicester rested most of their stars because of the rule which limits England players to 37 games this season.
They were on the bench in case of emergencies but were not needed.
Lloyd scored Tigers' first try in the third minute after a great move and in a one-sided first half had further tries from Jamie Hamilton, David Loughheed, Tim Stimpson and two more from Lloyd. Barking's only points came from fly half Justin Azzopardi who kicked two penalties.
Barking enjoyed tremendous support from 1,000 fans who got right behind their side during a terrific spell of pressure at the start of the second half.
But the Tigers stopped them scoring and came back with five more tries from Hamilton, Lewis Moody, Perry Freshwater, Lloyd and Jon Stuart.
The rest of the points came from the boot of Stimpson who kicked three conversions and Stransky two for Tigers, who on this form will take some beating.
