Love triangle torment drove husband to kill himself

A MAN who had planned to leave his wife for another woman was found dead in his fume-filled car.

Nursing home worker Haydn Weatherill took his own life on the day he was due to move in with new love Jane Wall.

But Haydn, 46, who had not told his wife Patricia he was leaving her, could not go through with it.

So he drove from his home in Swindon, Wilts, to a remote path in Savernake Forest, near Marlborough. And he made sure the engine would keep running by fitting new spark plugs and leads before attaching a hosepipe to the exhaust.

Police found his body in the early hours of the following morning. He had left a number of suicide notes.

An inquest into his death heard how his wife of 12 years had suspected his friendship with Jane Wall.

On the day of his death he told her he was going out to collect some videos.

"That was the last time I saw or spoke to him," said Mrs Weatherill in a statement read out at the inquest.

A statement from Ms Wall told how Mr Weatherill had planned to move in with her on the Friday. And he had confirmed this the previous evening.

She alerted the police the following day when he failed to turn up.

PC Alan Spencer told how he found the car on Column Walk in Savernake Forest. He said there was an empty bottle of white wine in the car and a number of notes.

Coroner David Masters said: "I have to arrive at the conclusion that he killed himself and I do so."
