RACE CHAMP'S BAN QUASHED
CHARLES WARRENFORMER Le Mans motor racing champ Derek Warwick was told he had a "truly awful motoring record" by a judge.
The veteran of 147 Grand Prix said he was left "humbled" after Swindon Crown Court, Wilts, heard he had been convicted of speeding four times in four years.
Warwick, 45, who sits on the safety committee of racing's governing body the RAC, was appealing against a six month ban after being clocked at 100mph on the M4 motorway.
He said a lengthy ban could stop him from being allowed to test cars, putting his 888 racing team in jeopardy.
The judge, who quashed the ban "with hesitation", left Warwick with 12 penalty points on his licence.
Warwick said: "I feel very humbled, I have made a big mistake."
