Kissing girls is OK but I'd rather put cuffs on a lad

EMILY NASH

SUN Hill's sexiest-ever recruit certainly knows how to make an arresting TV debut.

Bisexual PC Amber Johannsen sends temperatures soaring on ITV1's The Bill this Wednesday by arriving half-dressed for her first day on the beat.

But stunning actress Myfanwy Waring, 26, isn't fazed by her character's raunchy antics. "It's a laugh," she says with a naughty grin. "It gives the blokes something to giggle about."

And male viewers will no doubt relish every moment of her first month as her character gets steamy with PC Steve Hunter and a beautiful barmaid.

"I knew the other girl Claudia already and she's absolutely gorgeous, so that helped filming," she says.

"I don't have a problem with snogging. As long as the person I'm kissing doesn't have bad breath and they're not really, really minging, I just go for it!"

Myfanwy isn't planning on kissing girls outside of work, for now at least. "I'd never say never. I'm quite open-minded about that sort of thing," she says. "But I like pretty boys."

Having just come out of a two-year relationship, she says she's happy living alone in North-West London with her Siamese cats Minx and Chico. "I know everyone says this, but I'm not really looking," she says.

The third of seven children, Myfanwy grew up near Lampeter, West Wales, where she worked in a chip shop before deciding to pursue her dream of acting.

"I was in that Fiat Punto ad with the song Don't You Want Me and so I've had people coming up to me in the most ridiculous places and singing it to me. But I've not really thought about how many people will recognise me from The Bill."

Myfanwy admits she was nervous about joining the show. "I thought it might be daunting but everyone's been so friendly," she says.

"I was so excited about meeting Todd Carty, who plays PC Gabriel Kent.

"When I was little, my older sister Lorraine used to pretend to be Tucker Jenkins, the character Todd played in Grange Hill. She'd get me and my brother to try and beat her up. But she'd always kick the s*** out of us!"

It's hard to imagine Myfanwy tackling tough criminals though. At 5ft 3in, she's size six with size 21/2 feet. She puts her petite frame down to her genes, saying: "All my family are skinny. In fact, I'm the curvy one.

"I've not stopped eating since I started filming The Bill, but I need to keep my strength up."

And getting to grips with the police gear used on set is requiring some dedication. "Parts of it are fairly easy to do, like the flirting," she says.

"But the actual police side of it is new - learning to put the handcuffs on and all that.

"They're certainly different to any I've used before!"
