Thank you, Lord, for 2004!
Smith, JeffDear Friend in Christ,
During the past few days, I spoke to ten of our readers whom I called at random, just to see whether The Word Among Us is making a difference in their lives. Every one with whom I chatted was growing in prayer, faithfully reading the Scriptures and daily meditations, and genuinely trying to walk with the Lord. Although each person's circumstances were very different, their goal was the same: to build their life on a relationship with Jesus Christ!
This is our call: to encourage Catholics in their life of prayer and Scripture so that their relationship with Christ deepens, no matter how many years they have walked with the Lord. And we are all journeying together, each day allowing Christ to reign in our hearts and minds a little bit more. I hope that this is your experience, no matter which publication or book that you receive from us.
There are many signs of God's blessings on us in 2004. Our Partners in Evangelism ministry is now serving 25,000 prisoners every month! I thank all of you who have partnered with us to reach out to our brothers and sisters in prison. Our Foundation has been able to provide much needed funds to care for the poor and needy, to spread the gospel in Africa and Asia, and to support Catholic parishes and religious orders.
We continue to pray regularly for your needs, many of which we receive via e-mail or on our Web site, and we rely on your prayers as well. When we all get to heaven, we will probably find out that our prayers were a lot more powerful than we ever imagined! We especially pray that you will have a blessed and prayerful Christmas and that every member of your family will be touched by the humility of Christ who came into this world as a helpless baby to save us.
Sincerely in Christ,
Jeff Smith
