SIR, ABOUT THE BOMB..
LUCY JAMESHOLIDAYMAKERS were cleared from a beach near Dover's white cliffs after the Coastguard received a bomb warning... by letter. The note read: "Dear Sir, on the attached photograph is the position of an unexploded mortar. I came across this item when I was walking yesterday."
Dover Coastguard manager Barry Woodward said: "We thought it was a crank, but when the Army found the bomb it was extremely unstable."
The World War Two device at St Margaret's, Kent, was safely detonated. "It would have been quicker to dial 999," Mr Woodward added.
