Drinkers torch pub arsonist

A DRUNK was set on fire by drinkers after he tried to torch a pub.

The man, who had earlier been thrown out of two pubs for causing a nuisance, bought a can of petrol at a nearby filling station.

He doused the front of The Forresters in Stony Stratford, Bucks, with the fuel and set it alight before running off, chased by a group of drinkers.

A local man said yesterday: "He dropped his can of petrol as he fled and they poured it over him and set him alight."

Firefighters called to the pub blaze discovered the arsonist smouldering on the ground and doused him with water.

He suffered burns to his leg and back and may need skin grafts.

As he recovered in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, last night police were investigating.

They have arrested a 32-year-old man for arson with intent to endanger life.
