Cannondale F300
Reed, RobThe widespread attraction to Cannondale's bulging frames is far from unfounded. The F300 features Cannondale's CAAD2 oversized aluminum tubing, making it light and stiff. The frame geometry is relatively relaxed, resulting in predictable handling through rough and varied terrain, and the top tube is size-specific-ideal for those with short torsos and longer legs. Want originality? It's in their house-brand HeadShok front suspension. A singular shock type, as opposed to dualtelescoping found on most other bikes, the HeadShok is lighter, with arguably superior tracking, but doesn't necessarily "suspend" riders any better. The twist-style Gripshift also offers greater beginner friendliness than the Shimano push-and-pull system. Cannondale: 800/245-3872. $650.
