MY BIGGEST WEIGHT LOSS by SUE COOK
SUE COOKTV and radio presenter Sue Cook, 47, who is filming her travels for BBC1's Holiday Show, lives in North London with TV producer Billy McQueen, their daughter Megan and her son Charlie from her marriage to guitarist John Williams. She says her biggest weight loss was not deliberate, but the result of heartache over her divorce...
I LOST an enormous amount of weight in 1982 when my marriage to John Williams was breaking up. I knew it was coming to an end, but I was still trying to keep it all together.
I went from 91/2 stone to 8st 2lb and when I look at photographs of myself at that time I look terrible.
Our son Charlie was just a few months old and I suppose you lose weight when you are breast-feeding anyway.
But the main thing was that while everything was in a muddle I just wasn't interested in food.
My friends were very worried about me and I'll never forget a TV viewer who wrote to me after seeing me on Nationwide, saying 'Please cover up your skinny arms'.
I was most hurt.
I started eating normally again and putting the weight back on once John and I had finally made the decision to part.
Once that difficult question is decided you can pull yourself together.
I am 9st 4lb now and seem to stay there without hav-ing to diet.
I don't eat very big meals and I'm slow - always the last to finish - and often forget to eat in the middle of the day if I am busy, but I make sure I have a healthy diet.
Since that traumatic time, if I see anyone of normal weight who has suddenly lost a dramatic amount I automatically suspect that they must be going through some sort of sticky patch.
Being too thin definitely isn't attractive...especially if your arms get noticed for the wrong reasons on the box!
