BOGUS CAB MAN ATTACKS GIRL, 21
THOMAS SMITHDETECTIVES are hunting a bogus taxi driver who abducted and sexually assaulted a young woman.
She was tricked into getting into the "cab" before its driver took her from Glasgow city centre to a quiet industrial site to carry out the assault.
Last night, a police source said: "This was a horrible, vile attack on a defenceless young woman. This man must be caught before he strikes again."
The sickening attack happened in the early hours of yesterday, as the 21-year-old - on holiday in Glasgow from Northern Ireland - left the Cathouse nightclub in Union Street.
After splitting from friends at 2.15am, she called a private mini cab to take her home. When she got outside, the driver of a silver four-door saloon claimed he had been sent to pick her up and she entered the car.
But instead of taking her home, the driver took her to the attack location.
Injured and distressed, she struggled free and flagged down a motorist, who took her to hospital.
Last night, Detective Sergeant Sandy McLean, of Strathclyde Police, said: "The woman is not familiar with Glasgow and we are trying to establish where she was driven to."
The attacker is described as white, 19 to 25, of heavy build and 5ft 7in tall.
