Spotlighting AIDS - reader forum - Letter to the Editor
David ThorpeOver the years have enjoyed The Advocate's excellent reporting on HIV- and AIDS-related issues. However, I was disappointed that in all the pages examining the Democratic candidates' stances on gay political priorities ["Rating the Dems," February 3], I did not find a single reference to HIV or AIDS. It's essential for the gay community to push AIDS back into the spotlight. Infections for gay men are rising. People with HW, gay and straight, are dying on waiting lists to get medications from underfunded AIDS Drug Assistance Programs. Thousands of HIV-positive gay men continue to struggle with hinds-related side effects, discrimination, and an uncertain treatment future. In the coming months I hope to see candidates questioned about AIDS and how they plan to get America's AIDS policies back on track.
