Caerphilly 17 Llanelli 20
PAUL ALLENRupert Moon profited from the Scarlets' domination up front to score two second half tries and end Caerphilly's challenge.
A shock early season League defeat at Virginia Park left Llanelli in no doubt as to the size of their task, and they were soon rattled by the home side.
A neat dropped goal by David Phillips was just reward for Caerphilly's energetic opening, but Brett Davy was off target with a penalty attempt that would have doubled their advantage.
It was a costly miss as Llanelli secured an attacking platform which eventually yielded a penalty try from a five-metre scrum.
Llanelli's New Zealand star Frano Botica added the easy conversion to make it 7-3 before Caerphilly finished the half on the offensive.
Davy failed with another penalty chance and Caerphilly were once again denied when replacement Paul Phillips was brought down short of the line after a flowing attack.
The home side were made to regret those missed opportunities as Llanelli's heavier pack took control after the break.
Botica put them in position to strike with a fine break that eventually resulted in Moon's first try.
Botica's penalty goal stretched Llanelli's lead to 15-3 before Moon again touched down.
But Caerphilly hit back, David Phillips setting up Gareth Hurley for their first try.
Davy converted before Robert Bilton added Caerphilly's second try.
Another Davy conversion narrowed the deficit but Llanelli held on.
