BROKE GORAM SAVED
THOMAS SMITHRANGERS legend Andy Goram is to escape bankruptcy after receiving an unexpected pounds 10,000 cash windfall.
The former Scotland goalkeeper was facing financial meltdown after being ordered by a court to pay back a debt of more than pounds 6,000.
First National Bank were granted the order against Goram last month at Paisley Sheriff Court after a two-year battle. The bank have the option of making him bankrupt to get their money back.
But the former Rangers star - nicknamed The Goalie - is now set to escape bankruptcy after receiving an unexpected cash boost of around pounds 10,000.
Last night a friend of the 41-year-old former Rangers star said: "After the case went to court, Andy has been facing bankruptucy.
"But he has recently been handed around pounds 10,000 through a family connection, which will allow him to clear the debt and avoid the dreaded bankruptcy.
"He's very relieved. No one wants the stigma of bankruptcy bankruptcy - least of all a highprofile, footballing legend."
Goram's financial problems began after he took out a bank loan to buy a luxury Alfa Romeo car.
When the car broke down two years ago and needed a new engine, Goram left it at a mechanic's garage awaiting repairs.
After he stopped making the pounds 200 monthly payments on the bank loan, First National launched a court action to recover the outstanding balance owed to them - pounds 6,284.
