Good news for dem bones?

Patrick Holford

Under the microscope: glucosamine sulphate (GS) Patrick Holford, author of Supplements for Superhealth, Piatkus, #5.99 Glucosamine sulphate (GS) is an essential part of cell membranes and a type of cellular "glue". It plays a fundamental role in the formation of joints, tendons, ligaments, synovial fluid, bone and many more body parts including skin and blood vessels.

GS appears to stop or reverse joint degeneration by directly providing the body with the materials needed for the formation of the proteoglycans - the framework for joint structure; it may also prevent the breakdown of this substance in the body. Joint cartilage contains a higher concentration of GS than any other structural tissue.

Several experiments have shown GS and chondroitin to be effective in alleviating arthritis. In one such study pain was reduced in as many as 80% of volunteers who had degeneration in the knee, while inflammation was reduced in two thirds of them. The scientists reported that GS appeared to produce better results overall, especially in the people with mild arthritis, although chondroitin was more successful in advanced cases.

The usual dosage for GS in 500mg three times daily.
