'Jonny' is 'Zero'ed out

David Inman The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal

Question: What happened to the Fox show "Jonny Zero"? It was on Friday nights. Has it been dropped? Moved to another time? Is this temporary? I really liked the show.

Answer: "Jonny Zero" has been officially canceled. It was part of a Fox Friday-night lineup that garnered the lowest ratings since 1991.

Question: I have two questions. Is Poppy Montgomery from "Without a Trace" any relation to Elizabeth Montgomery of "Bewitched"? And on "Law & Order: SVU," they had Alex the D.A. come back for one episode. Why did she leave the show, and will she come back permanently?

Answer: Poppy Montgomery is no relation to the late Elizabeth Montgomery. Stephanie March, who played D.A. Alex Cabot on "Law & Order: SVU," left the show to do movie work. She'll be in the upcoming Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." She's not coming back to "Law & Order: SVU" on a regular basis.

Question: I was trying to find out the name of a TV show that ran in the mid-1980s. It was about a man who was undercover in the mob. Can you help?

Answer: You mean "Wiseguy," which ran on CBS from 1987-90? With Ken Wahl as Vinnie Terranova, who went undercover and mixed with hoodlums played by, among others, Kevin Spacey, Ray Sharkey and Joan Severance? Is that the one? Yes? OK, then. It was called "Wiseguy," and it ran on CBS from 1987-90. It's on DVD, in case you were wondering.

Question: Under what circumstances did Radar leave "M*A*S*H"?

Answer: Gary Burghoff, who played Radar, left the show in 1979 because he was worried about getting typecast in Radar-like parts. Five years later, the worry was a reality and he returned in a pilot called "Walter," about Radar's life after Korea, but it didn't sell.

Question: I just saw "The Aviator," and the actor who played the meteorologist/professor was driving me crazy until I realized where I'd seen him before. He also played the owner of the rival restaurant in "Big Night." But my husband won't believe me! I need validation.

Answer: You got it, sister. The actor is Ian Holm, and he played both roles -- making him, in my book, at least, a versatile fellow.

Question: There was a miniseries some years past that I thought did an excellent job of portraying realistic frontier life on the Ohio frontier. It starred Hal Holbrook and Elizabeth Montgomery. Do you know the name of the series and if it is on DVD?

Answer: That's the 1978 miniseries "The Awakening Land." It's not yet on DVD.

Question: Me and mom usually watch ABC's "life as we know it," but it hasn't been on lately. Was the show canceled? If not, will it be back on the air?

Answer: Sorry -- "life as we know it" has been officially snuffed out.

Question: Can you please tell me if and when "Queer as Folk" will be returning?

Answer: It's scheduled to return in late May.

Question: On the March 22 episode of "The Shield," they played "Amazing Grace" by a rock group at the end of the show. Can you tell me the name of the group, and if the song is on an album?

Answer: The group is the Dropkick Murphys, and the CD is "The Gang's All Here."

Question: How much does the average human skeleton weigh? I have looked everywhere for an answer to no avail. I hope you can help. Thanks!

Answer: But this is a column about movies and TV, and . . . 20 pounds, on average.
