War reporters'book battle
ANITA SINGHVETERAN BBC journalists Kate Adie and John Simpson are going head- to-head after each was nominated for autobiography of the year.
The pair have been shortlisted in the WHSmith Book Awards for their rival accounts of life on the frontline.
Adie has chronicled her years as a war correspondent in The Kindness Of Strangers, while Simpson's News From No Man's Land is the third instalment of his memoirs.
Winners in the nine categories of the awards will be announced on 18 March.
David Attenborough is the first author in the awards' history to be in two categories at once - for Life Of Mammals in the general knowledge category, and his Life On Air biography.
