An Introduction Van Der Graaf Generator (Virgin)

The decision in the late 1960s by rock musicians to turn away from the music's black roots and towards classical composers was, let's be frank, never going to reap dividends. The result was just one great band - King Crimson - and a slew of unmitigated tripe. Van Der Graaf Generator are undoubtedly the worst. This collection of nine pieces - none could remotely qualify as a song - features hymnal melodies, difficult time signatures, squealing saxophones and dire lyrics. The hysterical voice of Peter Hammill, the single least talented artist ever to work in popular music, is the last straw. All are taken from a larger boxed set, the entirety of which is worth less than the first two notes of I Heard It Through The Grapevine.
