Borders New Ways winners
Steve WilsonTHE winner of the first Borders New Ways Awards is Newcastleton Polysport Project, a community enterprise which has succeeded in funding, building and running an all-weather sports facility.
There were more than 70 entries for the awards, launched by the New Ways Economic Forum to reward innovation in business and the community in the Scottish Borders. The awards were the culmination of the two-day Time for Technology event in Galashiels, organised by the Borders Professional Forum. The event included workshops by Trevor Baylis, inventor of the wind-up radio, Bill Hill of Microsoft and Scrapheap Challenge host Robert Llewellyn. Other winners included: Wicken Fen Wholesome Foods, Duns, vegetarian products; Hireline, Galashiels, tool hire; Scotmas Limited, Kelso, food safety; Eildon Housing Association, Melrose; Murray Freeland-Cook, a trainee manager at George Lees Butcher, Morebattle, and adult learner Alison Gair, Greenlaw.
