pounds 5m RACHEL'S DAD IS MALL TOILET CLEANER
EXCLUSIVE By FIONA JAMESWHILE supermodel Rachel Hunter can pick up pounds 35,000 for a single day's work, her father is struggling to make ends meet...by cleaning toilets.
Wayne Hunter, 57, spends long hours mopping floors and emptying dustbins at a shopping mall despite undergoing a triple heart bypass operation after suffering a near-fatal heart attack.
Rachel has her own pounds 5million fortune and lives in the pounds 14million 11-bedroom mansion in Beverly Hills she used to share with Rod Stewart. Wayne earns just pounds 4 an hour for a 25-hour week and lives in a pounds 70,000 house.
And while Rachel enjoys her luxury Hollywood life with new pop star lover Robbie Williams, she rarely finds time to call her dad in New Zealand.
Wayne told the Sunday Mirror: "I like to keep nice and quiet about Rachel, but some people have found out at work that I'm her father and they say, 'What's he working here for?' or 'What's he cleaning toilets for?' or 'Why hasn't Rachel bought you a house?'"
Wayne split with his wife Jeneen in 1984 when Rachel, 32, and her sister Jacqui, 33, were still teenagers. "I know I wasn't the best father," he said. "But I still worry about them."
After being made redundant from his job running the valet parking at Auckland airport, Wayne has since served in a cafe and worked as a petrol pump attendant.
Now he gets up before dawn to start his eight-hour cleaning shifts at the Bayfair Shopping Centre in Mount Maunganui.
"I don't know how Rachel feels about it but I know she just wants me to be OK," said Wayne. "She has said in the past she'd get me an apartment in the States but it's not where I would choose to live."
Wayne last saw Rachel and children Renee and Liam - from her marriage to Rod - when she and Jacqui spent three days in New Zealand in March.
Rather than squeeze into the little home he shares with his new partner Rhonda Welsh and his daughter, 14-year-old Anna from his second marriage, Rachel stayed in a luxury beachfront apartment.
Wayne, who also has a 12-year-old son Paul, said: "They came over for dinner and we had a great time together going through old photos.
"You can see when the kids love you because it's really affectionate when they come home. When Rachel sees me it's a real hug, nothing half-hearted.
"When I had my heart operation in 1994 they were on the phone every day, even Rod. Rachel was ringing the hospital telling them she wanted the best surgeon there was and that she would pay for anything they could do.
"It was the same when I had another blockage three or four years ago."
Wayne says Rachel, who was famously paid pounds 35,000 for a day's work for Jaguar at last year's Monaco Grand Prix, only rings every now and again - "depending how busy she is".
But he only heard about her romance with Robbie when he read about it in the papers.
