The big winner at Olympia is Fuchs

ANN MARTIN

SHOWJUMPING: World Cup holder Markus Fuchs, had the last word at the Olympia International Show Jumping championships by winning the show's top award, the 16,000 first prize Grand Prix, on Tinka's Boy, writes Ann Martin.

In the nine-horse jumpoff, the 46-year-old from St Gallen in Switzerland, had a clear round and an audaciously short turn to the second jump put him more than a second ahead of Germany's second- placed Markus Merschformann on Camirez Z.

Damien Charles was the highest-placed Briton. He finished third on Canter de l'Odon with a clear round but he was more than four seconds slower than the winner.

Injured Gillespie to miss Melbourne Test

CRICKET: Australia today lost Jason Gillespie to injury ahead of Wednesday's Second Test against South Africa in Melbourne.

Gillespie said he was unsure that his shoulder, which began to cause him pain during the first innings of the First Test, would hold up throughout the game.

"I feel I could bowl my first spell okay but I wasn't completely sure if I could come back after that," he said. "This is such an important Test match and I was keen not to let any of the guys down so it was the sensible decision to step down."

Andy Bichel is likely to take his place in the team but Brad Williams has been added to the squad.

South Africa will give a late fitness test to Allan Donald (foot).

Australia won the First Test of the three-match series in Adelaide by 246 runs.

Di Pasquale wild on return to Australia

TENNIS: Sydney Olympics bronze medallist Arnaud Di Pasquale has been given a wildcard for next month's Australian Open, organisers said today.

Di Pasquale and world number three junior Marion Bartoli received the French wildcards under a reciprocal arrangement with the French Open.

Giants leave it to the very last again

GRIDIRON: The New York Giants scored the game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds left to beat the Seattle Seahawks 27-24 and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Kerry Collins completed 30 of 47 passes in leading the Giants to their second last-minute win in a row following last week's victory over Arizona.
