Will Smith Handy with the Heimlich manoeuvre is Men In Black star Will Smith. He was shopping in LA when a fan asked if he'd sing Happy Birthday to her friend, who was at a nearby restaurant. Smith agreed, came up behind the woman and began singing. When she saw who it was, she was so startled she choked on her burger. Smith performed the life-saving manoeuvre on her and after the half-chewed burger shot out, he even finished his song.

his own safety, the star of Dawson's Creek plunged into the ocean and saved the lives of two women caught in a dangerous riptide in North Carolina. Hearing them scream, Joshua and a pal jumped into the ocean - and saved them from being pulled under. Unable to get back to the shore because of the current, the boys kept the women afloat until help arrived. 'They're heroes,' said a Coast Guard officer.

Sylvester Stallone

Acting as if he were Rambo himself, Sly came to

the aid of a woman who was trapped by a heavy steel beam when a marquee collapsed in a rainstorm at an AIDS benefit in Milan. The muscle man raced over and single-handedly lifted the beam off her. Then as everyone fled in panic, fearing the rest of the structure would collapse, Sly calmly stayed by the woman's side, comforting her until paramedics arrived.

J-Lo When Jennifer Lopez was still with ex husband Cris Judd, the two of them were eating at a Los Angeles restaurant when the hapless dancer got bread stuck in his throat and started to choke. J-Lo jumped up and performed the Heimlich manoeuvre on her lover, forcing the bread out. 'She kept a cool head and didthe right thing. She was very impressive,' said a witness.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep and Cher as a

crime-busting duo? Could happen. When Streep spotted a burly mugger attacking a woman on a New York street she didn't hesitate. 'Meryl screamed - and ran straight at the man,' said chum Cher, who was with her. The mugger was so frightened by the sight of an enraged and screaming Streep coming hurtling towards him that he promptly let the woman go - and took off running. 'That's Meryl, she does what's right, no matter what,' added Cher.

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew raced to the aid of a

woman who suffered a seizure at a film festival. The star gave her mouth- to-mouth until she awoke. 'I felt a man stroking my hair and kissing my forehead, saying, "It's OK, sweetheart",' said the woman afterwards. 'When I opened my eyes I thought, "Nah, it can't be".' But it was. McConaughey, embarrassed at the fuss he'd caused, said modestly, 'The woman had a seizure. I had to do something.'

David Hasselhoff

In what could have been a scene straight out of his old TV show, the former Baywatch star raced into the pounding Malibu surf and saved a child from drowning. The two year old had been dragged into the sea by a dog she'd been walking. When Hasselhoff saw her bobbing helplessly 25 feet from shore, he plunged into the ocean and pulled her to safety, but not before he'd been badly cut up by some rocks. We don't know whether he was wearing red trunks at the time, though.

George Clooney

Mr Clooney showed he learned a few things on ER when he came to the aid of a stricken extra who collapsed on a movie set. In true Dr Ross style, George cleared the man's airway and stopped him from sinking into unconsciousness. 'When the man hit the ground, George ran over,' said an eye witness. 'He cradled the man's head in his hands and kept him alert by repeatedly asking, "Can you hear me?" Then he sat with him until paramedics arrived.' The man had suffered an allergic reaction, but, thanks to George's swift actions, it wasn't fatal.
