Mujer! you've come a long way! - Artículo Breve
Fernando Del RioIt began as a small Latina Conference in 1976 with only a few hundred women providing professional career and educational guidance. As the years went by it grew into the largest gathering of its kind in the nation. On April 6, 2001 at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles the National Hispanic Women's Conference is celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
Conference Chair and MA OF Board member Gilda Bojorquez-Gjurich is predicting that the "Silver Anniversary" may be the largest its in history. "We have a track record of bringing together the brightest and the best Latinas to discuss their pleasant and not-so-pleasant experiences," stated Ms. Bojorquez-Gjurich.
It is appropriate on the 25th Anniversary that women being honored are recognized for their accomplishments such as Rita Saenz, Director of the California Department of Social Services. The plenary session speaker includes Ambassador Martha Irene Lara the Los Angeles Consul General of Mexico. She is internationally recognized representing Mexico at the United Nations, European and Latin American conferences.
The Conference is loaded with career seminars from education to finance to business ownership. Workshop facilitators present the "do's and don'ts" while moving up the ladder, recruiters give job opportunity advice, a JCPenney fashion show with top models wearing chic spring and summer apparel and networking with top executives becomes a positive experience.
Honorary Co-chair is JCPenney's Barry Sparks, District Manager, along with Alan Rogers, Sharon Townsend, Peggy Dollar and Jullianna Solis. Ms. Bojorquez-Gjurich's coordinators ate Veronica Ramirez, Tatiana Villanueva, Veronica Corona, JR Ruiz, Irene Milligan, Frank Lopez, Elena Castaneda, Tim Morales and Fernando Del Rio.
