Rugby Union: GARNOCK GRAB THE LIMELIGHT
DAVID PHILLIPSTWO BT Cup third round shocks came within a few miles of each other in Ayrshire.
At Lochshore National League Div 2 Garnock turned over Premier Div 3 Cartha Queens Park despite trailing 7-8 at the break.
Winger Michael Loakman went over for Cartha's first-half try with Peter Leslie adding a penalty.
Flanker Ally Anderson got Garnock's opening score, bursting over from a line-out drive. Kurt Jacobson converted.
In the second half hooker/skipper Graham Reid crossed for Jacobson to land a second conversion.
When scrum half Paul McCrorie scored try number three with 20 minutes to go, the home side were en route to round four.
At Bellsland Kilmarnock dumped Musselburgh with an even better comeback.
Trailing 6-18 at half time, they won 24-18.
A penalty try and one from Blair Stewart with Graham Wells adding two penalties and a conversion were enough to give Musselburgh the lead with Killie only landing two Robbie Stewart penalties.
In the second half tries for centre Coen Ladewig and flanker Andrew Pollock pulled the home side back and with Stewart adding a third penalty and Derek Wright collecting two and a conversion, Killie were through.
Ardrossan Accies fought bravely before going down 8-23 to Stirling County.
Stirling had tries from Colin Harris in a move which swept the length of the field, converted by Brian Archibald.
Archibald added a try of his own and two penalties.
In the second half Ardrossan rarely left the visitors half. Flanker Calum Kirkland scored a beauty after good work by Brian Henry and Jeff Anderson.
Allan Wilson added a conversion to his penalty and although Ian Noble did grab a try for Stirling in the second half, Ardrossan go into the Shield draw next week having won the second half against Premier Div 1 opponents.
