This dog could use your help

The chain around the dog's neck dug into its flesh.

The resulting wet wound was visible and gave off a knock-you-down stench. But the Spokane man who owned the young German shepherd mix showed no signs of remedying the situation.

So, finally, these two sisters who live nearby -- a medical transcriptionist and a waitress -- had seen enough. Late one night, they unhooked the abused animal from its insanely short tether and took her to an emergency veterinarian. Not surprisingly, the doctor was appalled at the pooch's condition.

Legal action ensued against the canine's cretinous owner. And today the healed and healthy dog officially belongs to one of the sisters.

But the women already had as many animals as they can handle. So they're looking for a home for the dog, which they have named Hope.
