The castle is set at the north-eastern tip of Scotland and was officially opened by Prince Charles on August 14. It is open daily to the public (excluding Mondays) until October 6. There are a couple of properties on the 40,000-acre Dunbeath Estate such as Bayview, a traditional stone cottage sleeping five, for pounds 375 in September, or a former gamekeeper's cottage above Dunbeath Water with magnificent Highland views for pounds 440. Remember, September is a bad month for midges in Scotland, so take a natural insect repellent.
