For HR talent look outside and inside
John P. DoyleYour article "Filling the HR Pipeline" (September) was an excellent overview of the need to develop internal HR talent. Unfortunately, my own quote was placed out of context. The shortage of top HR leadership talent actually makes using a search firm even more important in evaluating external and internal talent, not the opposite, as the story stated.
At Spencer Stuart, clients are increasingly asking us to identify hard-to-find HR talent as well as executives in leading corporations with first-rate HR departments who are ready to take the next step up and lead their own departments. Our HR-related searches are up significantly in the past year. We expect this trend to continue.
