THE sad fact that the Grundy brothers were only two of so many brave men who were lost has made me wonder: what would Great Britain have been like had these men lived and fulfilled their potential?

How their parents - my parents' generation - managed to carry on, I can barely imagine. I only remember they never really laughed out loud. These men's letters made a worthwhile and unbearably moving read.
