GONZAGA ALUMNI HONORED AT RECOGNITION DINNER
Compiled by Karen MasonSpokane residents and Gonzaga University graduates Joseph Gagliardi, Christine S. Schnug and Harry H. Sladich were honored at the school's annual Distinguished Alumni Merit Awards Recognition Dinner.
Also honored were Spokane native Patrick Cavanaugh and Darrel W. Jesse of Tacoma.
These alumni exemplify GU's ideals and their lives reflect the university's commitment to serve others, said Dale Goodwin, spokesman. Cavanaugh, a pioneer in radiation oncology, graduated in 1947; Gagliardi, a leader in pro bono legal service in Spokane, graduated from Gonzaga School of Law in 1959 and taught there from 1963-67. Schnug, a community leader and the first woman elected to head the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, graduated in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in taxation in 1982. Sladich, who has held several leadership positions at Gonzaga and served on many community boards, graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1959 and a master of business administration degree in 1967. Jesse, a 1947 graduate, was recognized for his contributions to the international business community. Melody Clark, a junior at Rogers High School, is featured in Who's Who Among American High School Students for the second consecutive year. Clark, daughter of Sally Braithwaite-Marshall and Rich Clark, plans to pursue a career in pediatrics or counseling and hopes to attend Stanford University. Navy Midshipman David Hutsell, Pullman, has been recognized for superior performance of duty as a midshipman working toward an undergraduate degree while serving with Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Units, University of Idaho, Moscow. Bethanie Moeller, daughter of Jim and Cathie Moeller, Spokane, is one of 36 first-year students named to the dean's list for spring quarter at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va. Moeller is a graduate of Ferris High School. J. Ann Geraghty, Spokane County auditor, received the designation of Certification Government Financial Manager by the national organization of Association of Government Accountants, Professional Certification Board. The organization provides the only certification program designed specifically to recognize the unique skills and knowledge of professionals who specialize in government financial management. Colin Charbonneau, son of Ed and Faris Charbonneau, Spokane, was named to the dean's list for spring quarter at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. Charbonneau is a 1994 graduate of St. George's High School. Sarah Ann Rowe, Chattaroy, was named to the honor roll for summer quarter at Western Washington University in Bellingham. Rowe completed at least 14 graded credit hours and was in the top 10 percent of her class. Seth Jackson, a spring graduate of Shadle Park High School, earned his Eagle Scout award as a member of Troop 121, sponsored by the 7th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jackson has joined the Marine Corps. Kasi Joy Anderson and Donnie LeBret, Inland Northwest high school students, were named as All-American Scholars by the U.S. Achievement Academy. To earn that status, students must excel in academic disciplines, earning at least a 3.3 grade-point-average. Anderson, Mead, is the daughter of Mike and Marla Anderson. LeBret, Wellpinit, Wash., is the son of Jack and Barb LeBret.
