WEY SIMPSON RECEIVES WSU ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Wey Simpson, whose journalism career has spanned 50 years, has received the Washington State University Alumni Achievement Award. He earned a degree in speech and broadcasting from Washington State College.

Simpson's journalism career included positions as news editor at KHQ-Radio and TV. He is well known for his work as an agriculture reporter and has been the agriculture and agri-business director of Agri News. He still gives agriculture reports on KAQQ-Radio.

He has also been an active member of the Spokane Ag Bureau and the National Association of Farm Broadcasters. Air Force Reserve Cadet Timothy Palmer, son of Linda Keck, Spokane, has been accepted to the Euro-NATO joint jet pilot training program. The program trains U.S. Air Force pilots with those from 11 other nations to function precisely and accurately during air operational situations. Army Reserve Pvt. John Vitellaro, son of Annie and Walter Tomson, Spokane, graduated from the concrete and asphalt equipment operator course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Vitellaro, a 1996 graduate of Mead High School, was also trained in combat engineering. Air Force Airman 1st Class Steven Hallam, son of Kevin and Valene Hallam, has graduated from the security apprentice course at the Air Force Security Police Academy, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Hallam, a 1991 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, learned about operations security systems, tactics, and weapons use, handling and safety.
