THE best Christmas present your readers can give is the gift of life. So I am writing to encourage them to become blood donors following a recent dip in blood stocks.

This time of year blood stocks can drop by up to 10 per cent as everyone busies themselves for Christmas. The National Blood Service has launched a national appeal for new and existing donors.

Anyone aged 17-60, in general good health and who weighs over 50kg is encouraged to find out where they can donate their first pint that could save more than one person's life.
