SAMMY of Emmerdale SWAPS pounds 6M DUNNY of Birmingham for pounds 10M

TEENAGE Emmerdale beauty Sammy Winward is getting over her love split with soccer-star fiance David Dunn... with the help of his England team-mate Alan Smith.

After a five-month engagement, the end of her romance with the pounds 6million Birmingham City star Dunn was a shock to their friends when it was revealed just four days ago.

Now TV and soccer insiders have been left even more stunned by the news that blonde Sammy is being comforted by a higher-profile Premiership star - soccer bad boy Alan Smith, 23, the pounds 10million Leeds striker who plays alongside Dunn in England's Under- 21 side.

Last week Sammy, who plays temptress Katie Addyman in the ITV1 soap, went on a date with Smith, who split from his childhood sweetheart, model Lauren Frain, three months ago.

And in a further twist Lauren has now fallen for Manchester United's Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, 19, after they met at a Christmas party.

"A week ago Sammy was heartbroken after she and David split - she thought they were destined to marry," said a source. "Then she met Alan and they really clicked. She will definitely be seeing him again."

David, 24, popped the question the night before Sammy's 18th birthday in October. But he spent most of his time training in Birmingham while she lived with her parents in Bolton, Lancs. Sammy previously dated Kelvin Fletcher, 19, who plays her TV fiance Andy Sugden.

Volatile Smith has been sent off nine times and banned for throwing a bottle into the Elland Road crowd. A friend said: "He'd hate people to think he'd stolen his mate's girl - that's not the case at all."
