New Southern Baptist church forming in CdA
Linda Ball CorrespondentA new church has formed in Coeur d'Alene, NorthStar Church, a Southern Baptist Church Family of Faith.
Pastor Scott Hanberry, wife Stephanie and two daughters Hannah, 8, and Haley, 7 relocated here in September from New Orleans where Hanberry was in seminary.
A family friend, Mike Palmer, is the pastor at Salmon Valley Baptist Church in Salmon, Idaho. Palmer contacted Hanberry and told him there was an opportunity to start a congregation here.
Hanberry said the moment they stepped foot in Coeur d'Alene they knew they were home.
The church stresses "Real people, relevant discussions, relational settings and small groups" on their Web site.
Right now they are meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays in McEuen Terrace's common area, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Lake Villa Apartments in the TV lounge. They hope to build a facility.
Pastor Hanberry and some of the congregation teamed up with the Proverbial Cup and served free coffee and hot chocolate to 320 chilly folks at the Polar Bear Plunge New Year's Day to get to know some of the community. He even participated to initiate himself to North Idaho.
