SMALL LIBERTY CLASS GRADUATES WITH BIG DREAMS

Sarah Johnson, Kim Konshuk

Class of '99

Special graduation edition

If we could express in one word defining what the senior class of 1999 is, it would be ... well, small. But that shouldn't be confused with insignificant, boring, or any of those words that denote common attitudes toward small-town life. There are times when even we joke about about it, but really we are all very different individuals, no easier to sum up in a few short paragraphs than something as complicated as the Monica Lewinsky scandal. We found a humorous e-mail circulating that begins: "You Might be From a Small Town if ..." and it really wasn't that far from the truth. It talks about referring to "the" town stoplight, and the same old ladies always gossiping in the doughnut shop. Of the five little towns that comprise our district, we have no stoplights (a few stop signs though), and no doughnut shop (not even a franchised business among us), but there are some elderly farmers who sometimes play dice in the cafe. School all but closes for major sporting events. We've got great school spirit, and we were proud of our teams, led by the seniors, that made it so far this year. Thanks guys, it was a great way to get out of calculus! As for being able to name all our classmates, no problem! Anyone could probably whip out a sort of personal history for each person in our class too. Since half of us have been here since kindergarten, and most transferred not long after, we're all pretty close. No one could forget "You may tune me out, but you may not disrupt me" (courtesy of Mr. Coulter), or being "hooked up" by Mr. Johnson. To our senior classmates, we just want to say thank you for all the memories, tears, laughter and good times over the past 13 years. Muchas gracias, amigos! Now that we've exhausted our Spanish vocabulary, we'll just leave you with some sound advice: Y'all come back now, y' hear?
