Senate forms Reserve Caucus - Legislative Update
Ltc Stephen P. AndersonU.S. Sens. Zell Miller and Saxby Chambliss, both of Georgia, will co-chair the newly formed Senate Reserve Caucus, established to provide needed support to the country's Reserve components and their families.
"We want this nation's Reservists to know they have friends in Washington who appreciate their sacrifice. While they are protecting our country, we will be doing all we can to protect the families and jobs they leave behind" Senator Miller said.
"Often our Reservists leave higher-paying jobs to answer the call to serve, putting their families under unexpected financial strains. The Reserve Caucus will serve as an important vehicle to making sure the needs of our Reserve forces and their families are met," Senator Chambliss said.
Currently, nine states and Puerto Rico have mobilized over 20 percent of their Reserve forces to support the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom. At present, their length of active duty is indeterminate.
