  • 摘要:Age-0 fishes were sampled in the tailrace of Big Bend Dam, Missouri River, from June 2 to September 30, 1999. Overall, 6,302 fish representing 11 species were collected, although gizzard shad (Dorosoma cepedianum; 76%) and freshwater drum (Aplodotinus grunniens; 22.6%) composed the majority of the catch. Mean abundances (number of fish/1,000 m 3 ± SE) of entrained age-0 freshwater drum and gizzard shad were 15.2 ± 12 and 42.8 ± 6.8, respectively. Typically, freshwater drum catches were highest at night and gizzard shad catches were highest during the day. Cumulative losses (number of fish ± 95% CI) of fish from Lake Sharpe resulting from turbine entrainment through Big Bend Dam from June 2 to September 30 were 120 10 6 ± 80 10 3 freshwater drum and 447 10 6 ± 390 10 3 gizzard shad. Cumulative larval biomass losses were approximately 35 metric tons of gizzard shad and five metric tons of freshwater drum. Average daily losses for the sampling period due to entrainment were estimated to be about 1.0 10 6 freshwater drum (41 kg) and 3.7 10 6 gizzard shad (270 kg) per day.
