  • 摘要:Hatha Yoga consists of psychophysical postures along with breath control in a conscious manner, and it seems to promote several physical and psychic benefits. Objective: to evaluate the effect of a 16-week intervention with Hatha Yoga on anxiety and depression levels in university students. Methods: 17 participants took part in this study, with an age average of 26.2 (±5.08). A 16-week intervention was carried out, twice a week with a 75-minute duration. An anamnesis was applied, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used for the evaluation of symptoms pre and post intervention. Results: There was significant improvement in anxiety (p<0.001) and depression (p=0.008) levels when comparing scores before and after 16 weeks of Hatha Yoga intervention. At the end of the intervention, the level of anxiety decreased in both groups, morning and night (p<0.02) groups, but the levels of depression reduced only for the morning class (p=0.050). Conclusion: We conclude that Hatha Yoga intervention was effective in reducing anxiety and depression levels in college students.
